Tips for a great July Fourth camping trip
Book early and go long. Fourth of July weekend is the most popular camping weekend of the year. If you can arrive a day before the crowds and leave a day after, you’ll have a much better experience — better sites, less traffic, and more of that peaceful camping feeling you’re actually after.
Claim your fireworks viewing spot early. Many campgrounds and state parks have designated areas for watching nearby fireworks displays. Scope it out when you arrive and stake your claim with a few camp chairs before it fills up.
Pack a separate holiday bin. Decorations, sparklers, glow sticks, red white and blue plates — keep it all in one labeled bin so July Fourth morning feels festive without turning the whole RV upside down.
Plan for the heat. July camping means July temperatures. Make sure your RV’s air conditioning system is in good working order before you leave, keep the awning out during peak afternoon hours, and set up a shaded outdoor area where the family can relax without baking.
Set a campground curfew for the kids. Longer summer days and the excitement of camping means kids will push bedtime as far as they can. A clear, agreed-upon lights-out time for the bunk area keeps the peace and means the adults actually get to enjoy the evening too.
